JEAN FAURE 2019 75CL

Château JEAN FAURE 2019 SAINT EMILION GRAND CRU CLASS

A historic premier cru, appearing in the middle of the 18th century on the first cartography of the great Bordeaux terroirs, Château Jean Faure has survived the ages with consistency. Formerly attached to Figeac, Jean Faure has not changed in area since the beginning of the 19th century.

Château Jean Faure claims more than 50% Cabernet-franc. Unique grape variety in Saint-Émilion but very close to that of the mythical vintages of Cheval Blanc and Figeac. This composition: 50% Cabernet Franc, 45% Merlot and 5% Malbec inclines the cru towards elegance and freshness.

Historic 18 hectare vineyard, CHÂTEAU JEAN FAURE is rooted in a magnificent terroir of clay and iron dross composed of a dominant Cabernet Franc (50%). Xavier Choné, Agricultural engineer and Doctor of Oenology, carried out a large-scale pedological study on the soil of Château Jean Faure by having 30 surveys carried out. It summarizes the geology and the relief of the vineyard of Château Jean Faure: “80% of the surface of the vineyard of Château Jean Faure presents a very clayey subsoil which appears from 30 to 100 cm in depth. The roots can go down to 150 to 200 cm deep.

Trotanoy 1995 Pomerol 75cl
Château Trotanoy 1995 Pomerol

100% merlot grape variety

This prestigious estate, whose name in old French evoked the intense labor of the land, is located on one of the best exposed plots of the famous Pomerol plateau. Acquired in 1953 by the Établissements Jean-Pierre Moueix, who have operated it since then, it benefits from an exceptional terroir.

The diversity of the soils, composed of equal parts gravel underlain by clay and deep black clay over an iron dross substrate, gives the wine a unique combination of power, depth and complexity.

The vineyard, partially preserved from the devastating frosts of 1956, is on average 35 years old. It is grown using traditional methods, including regular plowing, thinning and leaf stripping, and the harvest is ideally carried out in two or three afternoons. Fermentations take place in cement vats, then the young wine is aged in oak barrels, half of which is renewed each year.

Château Trotanoy is among the most popular wines of the appellation and can easily age for several decades in exceptional vintages.

RIEUSSEC 2019 75CL

Château RIEUSSEC 2019 Sauternes Classified Growth
Grapes : Semillon 89%, Sauvignon blanc 9%, Muscadelle 2%

Second Wine The Carmelites of Rieussec

Details Domain
In the 1790th century, the Domaine de Rieussec belonged to the Carmelite monks of Langon. The confiscation of the Estate during the Revolution led around XNUMX to its sale as “National Property” to Mr. Marheilhac, owner at the time of Château La Louvière in Léognan.

In the 1855 classification, Mr. Mayne is the owner. The quality of the Rieussec terroir is recognized there as a Premier Cru Classé of Sauternes and Barsac. From this date, the history of Rieussec is strewn with changes of owners: Charles Crepin (around 1870), Paul Defolie (1892), M. Bannil (1907), then the Gasqueton family (owner of Château Calon-Ségur in Saint Estèphe), PF Berry during the war (American citizen brother-in-law of the Vicomte de Bouzet), M. Balaresque (1957) and finally, Albert Vuillier (1971), passionate lover of “sweet wines” from Sauternes.

Château Rieussec was acquired by Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) in 1984, the estate then comprised 110 ha, including 68 ha of vines. To better express the potential of Château Rieussec, rigorous measures are put in place with, among other things, more meticulous sorting of grains and fermentation in barrels which allows a much finer selection during the assembly of the great wine.

A new cellar was built to extend the period of aging in barrels from the 1989 vintage. The quantity of great wine was considerably reduced in the 90s by a more rigorous selection, the year 1993 even saw the absence of great wine. lack of quality.

From the year 2000, the renovation of the aging cellars, the construction of a fermentation cellar and the technological development of the reception and pressing room also make an additional contribution to the permanent quality effort carried out since 1985. .

MARGAUX 2005 75CL

Château Margaux 2005
1er Grand Cru classified Margaux Red
Grapes 75% Cabernet Sauvignon 20% Merlot 5% Petit Verdot
Second Wine Red Pavilion of Château Margaux

Comments
The spectacular success of the Margaux appellation in this vintage remains in part an enigma, which illustrates how our knowledge of success factors is still limited… It seems that the stormy rains in August were less abundant in the region of Margaux than in the other regions of Bordeaux. Château Margaux 1983 is a very great wine, which some tasters find better than the 1982 vintage. Since their birth, we have followed this pair of vintages with curiosity and gluttony without passing a final judgment on their respective quality; over time, one tasted better than the other and then the other way around… Today, the 1983 is certainly one of the most classic Margaux of the last twenty years; the bouquet has developed well, it has become rich, complex, ripe. The impression on the palate remains very powerful with still firm tannins but without harshness. We can start drinking it, but its potential for growth and improvement is still very important. (Castle notes, October 2008)

Since the XNUMXth century, Margaux has shone without rival in the south of the Médoc thanks to a magnificent terroir formed by a very thick layer of siliceous gravel. Château Margaux was the property of King Edward III of England, in the middle of the XNUMXth century it belonged to Monsieur de Fumel, military commander of Bordeaux, who worked hard for its reputation. Over the generations, over the centuries, the skill of some, the innovations of others, gradually make Chateau Margaux wine a wine of excellence, in particular thanks to the talent and progress made by Berlon, manager at the very beginning. from the XNUMXth century. It was in fact he who had the idea of separating the white grapes from the red grapes for winemaking. He knew the land very well and knew how to exploit it. He is at the origin with his men, of the creation of a true art and a know-how.

Château Margaux 1999

1er Grand Cru classified Margaux Red
Grapes 75% Cabernet Sauvignon 20% Merlot 5% Petit Verdot
Second Wine Red Pavilion of Château Margaux

Château Margaux has always been one of the greatest estates in the Médoc. The only Premier Grand Cru Classé in the commune of Margaux, it remains one of the most evocative names of the Bordeaux vineyards. The long-lasting wines produced there are fragrant, elegant and renowned for combining finesse and power. We find deep aromas of blackcurrant and blackberry with which, after a few years, more evolved scents of tobacco and cedar are mixed. The name Margaux transcends its wine and evokes supreme refinement, we are talking here about one of the symbols of French culture... History of the Château Château Margaux has indisputably reigned over the south of Haut Médoc since the 17th century. The first “claret” found in the famous Christie's auction house, it was also first in class during the 1855 classification when it obtained, in addition to its title of Premier Grand Cru Classé, the perfect score of 20/20. Focused on excellence from its first steps, Château Margaux overcame crises (wars, phylloxera) thanks to significant investments from its owners, in turn fascinated by the infinite potential of this terroir.

The Ginestet family, already owner of Cos d'Estournel and Clos Fourtet, acquired the estate in 1949, but the oil crisis and its repercussions on the Bordeaux wine market forced them to sell the estate to André Mentzelopoulos in 1977.

Restructuring of the vineyard, plot selection, aging in new oak barrels are some of the projects he is undertaking, but the results of which he will unfortunately not see. After his death in 1980, his daughter Corinne Mentzelopoulos took over the reins of Château Margaux. The spectacular momentum brought by André Mentzelopoulos restored Margaux to its former glory, while an unparalleled event caused the price of Bordeaux to explode: the 1982 vintage.

Since the 1980s Margaux has been at the top of the wine world and each year continues to offer us exceptional wines such as the 2009 and 2010 vintages which leave oenophiles dreaming...
Paul Pontallier, who was director of Château Margaux for more than 30 years before leaving us suddenly in 2016, confided his astonishment for the fantastic 2009 vintage: “I had never tasted a wine like the 2009. This success is a mystery. , it is so pure that it seems religious. »
Corinne Mentzelopoulos, supported by the advice of Bordeaux oenologist Jacques Boissenot, propels Château Margaux towards “more Margalese” wines where sensitivity and harmony take precedence over concentration and richness.

Cantemerle 2021 Haut Médoc 75cl

Chateau Cantemerle  5th Cru Classé Médoc Red

Grapes 50% Cabernet Sauvignon 40% Merlot 5% Cabernet Franc 5% Petit Verdot

Classified Cru in 1855, Château Cantemerle extends its vineyard over plots of fine gravel bordering the Gironde estuary.

In the Middle Ages, Château Cantemerle was part of the line of fortifications which defended the banks of the Médoc, about a kilometer from the current castle. A century later, Aquitaine having become English, we find a Lord of Cantemerle, fighting alongside King Henry III of England. The first traces of wine production on the estate were found as early as 1354: the Lord of Cantemerle paid the tithe with a barrel of Clairet! On August 20, 1579, Jean de Villeneuve purchased the noble houses of Cantemerle. He married Antoinette de Durfort, from the house of Duras and Blanquefort and it is through this alliance that, since the year 1600, the Villeneuve de Cantemerle have been called Villeneuve de Durfort. Théophile-Jean Dubos, took over the estate in 1892, with the help of his two sons Pierre and Bernard. When Pierre Dubos died in 1962, his great nephew Bertrand Clauzel became the sole manager and remained so until the sale of the estate in 1981 to the Mutuelles d'Assurance du Bâtiment et des Travaux Publics.
