Saint-Joseph is a controlled designation of origin (AOC) wine from the vineyards of the northern Rhône Valley.
It is produced on the right bank of the Rhône.

The area of ​​the AOC extends over 26 municipalities in the departments of Ardèche and Loire.
This wine-growing region enjoys a temperate climate.
The appellation is best known for its red wines, powerful and fine, made from Syrah. It also produces 10% of white Saint-Joseph which blends the Roussanne and Marsanne grape varieties.

At the origin of this estate is Louis Avon, a journeyman cooper who, during his Tour de France, settled in Vacqueyras where he came to buy some acres of vines. Today, after a transmission from mother to daughter, the domain covers 22 hectares including 2 in Cotes du Rhone, 3 en Gigondas et 17 en VacqueyrasIn the vineyards, the reasoned fight is in the spotlight, which excludes herbicides and pesticides. In the same logic of respect for Nature, the soil is mechanically worked. Concerning the grape variety, Grenache is in the majority, followed by Syrah and a little Mourvèdre. Happy team of pickers share pick the beautiful and good bunches. In the cellar, you will find the same respect, the same attention as in the vineyards, with minimalist interventions and barrel aging.

And if Le Claux was the best wine of Saint Cosme? In light of the last tastings of old wines that we conducted at the estate, it is permissible to ask the question. Certainly, Le Claux is the oldest vine in Saint Cosme and one of the first post-phylloxeric plantations in France, but why does this soil generate so much quality?
That said, the microclimate of Saint Cosme probably has a significant impact on this locality: the fresh air of the valley of the Font des Papes continuously refreshes this area which gives intensely aromatic fruit. The cold influence would tend to be demonstrated by the fact that Le Claux is a later terroir.

It is in 1989 that the area of ​​Espiers was born in Vacqueyras, when Philippe Cartoux decided to walk in the footsteps of his grandparents who owned a vineyard in the family since 1879.

The vineyard now covers 9,5 hectares including 3 to Gigondas, 4 en Cotes du Rhone et 2,5 en Côtes-du-Rhône-Villages Sablet. The grape variety is largely dominated by the main 3 Rhone grape varieties, namely Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. The vines are in struggle and receive no chemical treatment. In general, the gestures are all part of a logic of respect for the soil and the environment, with yields particularly lower than 35 hl / ha.

Harvesting is manual for traditional winemaking and aging in oak barrels. Philippe Cartoux likes to produce robust, gourmet but also refined wines. Proof of the quality of its work, Lavinia boutiques offer its wines.

This wine consists of a single plot of vines in the commune of Gigondas.
The vine is aged 40 and composed of 70% Grenache and 30% Syrah. The harvest is manual and often the grapes picked are slightly overripe in order to obtain wines more full-bodied.
The vinification is done with a very high temperature (+ 34 ° c) in order to extract a maximum of aromas and color. The harvest is complete to allow a good homogeneity of the grape marc and long pumping over.
This wine is then aged in barrels for about 12 months, then bottled without sticking or filtration.

Domaine Saladin is located in Saint Marcel d'Ardèche, a southern village of the Côtes du Rhône du Sud, halfway between Montélimar and Avignon, on the right bank of the Rhône.

Elisabeth, Marie-Laurence, Louis and Annick Saladin are at the head of Domaine Saladin, a family property passed down from father to son and father to daughters since 1422. The 18 hectares and 13 grape varieties 

Rhodanians of the estate offer the particularity of having always been harvested by hand, cultivated and vinified organically. 

 “Chaveyron – 1422” is a selection of plots located in Saint Marcel d'Ardèche. The archives show that in 1422, Raymond Saladin bought a vine planter at a place called “Chaveyron”. A composition, a XNUMXth century copy of which is kept in the departmental archives of the Ardèche, attests: “Raymondi Saladini de Trihano Item unum Planterium situun in Chalvayrono”.
Since then, the generations of farmers-vine growers have succeeded one another. 
The terroir is made up of “red” earth, ferrous, dotted with rolled pebbles. The exposure is oriented South-East on hillsides. To the north, oaks, a “Clapas” (heap of stones in patois) and a hedge of high cypresses authorized the plot. The yield reaches 28 hectoliters per hectare. No use of pesticides, herbicides or insecticides since the origin of the Domain. The harvest is entirely manual. Certified Organic Agriculture by Ecocert. Since 2006, Elisabeth and Marie-Laurence have chosen to downgrade this cuvée to Table Wine because it does not meet the standard of the approval commission. Vinification method: Syrah and Viognier are harvested by hand and vinified together. One month vatting in indigenous yeasts. Aging takes place in oak casks for 9 months.

On the left bank of the Rhône, at the height of the 45th parallel, unfolds the largest vineyard of the northern appellations, in 11 communes of the Drôme: the Vineyard of Crozes-Hermitage. A prestigious cru, Crozes-Hermitage is available in reds, made from Syrah, and whites from Roussanne and Marsanne.


Acquired by the family in 1490, the property comprises 22 ha of old vines with an average age of 60 years.
They give small yields. The terroir of Saint Cosme is a geological mosaic linked to the great upheaval of the Dentelles de Montmirail. Saint Cosme is located exactly at the crossing point of two geological faults, in a cold and late microclimate: balance, freshness and finesse characterize the wines.

Very old Grenache planted at a place called “Le Claux”. Whole harvest. Limestone marls from the Miocene, in the Font des Papes alluvial cone. Le Claux is a living testimony to a fundamental part of French wine history: the phylloxera crisis. The vine was replanted in 1870 on a rootstock that has almost disappeared today: the "Gloire de Montpellier". It was one of the very first vines replanted in the Rhone. Producing wines again after such a tragedy must have been "glorious", no doubt... The masculinity of Claux wines is coupled with a complexity that has its sources in the genetic diversity of all these old vine plants. , all different. The depth in the wines of Claux is always amazing, even in the most difficult vintages. In a vintage like 2019, this depth is more like the Mariana Trench than a small pond formed by the storm of August 15. The magic of great vintages is a pleasure, a gift from heaven that all winegrowers of the world share the same way. Because the joy produced by good wine is a human pleasure that is lost in the mists of time. Only the road that goes up to the village of Gigondas separates Claux from Hominis Fides. However, the wines are so different: it is always a good way to understand the meaning of the system of localities imagined by the Cistercian monks in Burgundy. Indeed, before throwing away the ideas of those who preceded us, you have to think, try other ideas many times, then decide by trying to see far ahead. You will have noticed that we like the old writing of the words, before the spelling remotivation due to time distorts them a little. A Claux, which has become "Clos" in most French vineyards, was originally written Claus, Clausas, Clausis, Clauzis and designated a closed place, closed, from the Latin Clausum for "closed". A vine can be "enclosed" by a wall, a river, the sea, a lake or a cliff. It is indeed a long cliff that closes our "Claux": this parcel therefore draws its etymological origin from the mists of time. The names of the localities always mean something if we take the trouble to search a bit. I have a particular affection for Claux, our oldest vine, which produces the most “Burgundy” wine of the estate, full of bouquet, finesse and freshness.

The nature of the soil is clay and limestone with 15% garrigue type pebbles. The culture is carried out without chemical weedkillers in order to preserve the typicality of the soils. The grape variety is 70% Grenache noir, 20% Mourvèdre and 10% Syrah. Aged 25 years on average, the vines are young and have a high density of 5400 vines per hectare, which is 30% more than traditional plantations from the southern Rhône. The yield of the vines is 40 hl. The vinification is carried out in concrete vats and the stalk is kept during the vinification in order to facilitate pumping over and unloading. Aging takes place in concrete vats for 8 months before bottling.
